White is an heirloom variety of unknown origin. It is also sold under the names ‘Moonshine’ and ‘Polar Bere’.
Culinary Traits
White is a very tart variety with no sweetness. This is the classic oca flavor, something like a potato with sour cream or lemon. The cooked flesh is moderately firm and remains white.
Agronomic Traits
White plants are intermediate in size with a large number of stems. They sprawl at maturity. Tubers are produced on stolons of intermediate length and are generally uniform. Tuberization photoperiod is about 12 hours, the same as most heirloom varieties. Average yield is 2.2 pounds. Maximum tuber length is 5.1 inches and the tubers are also quite bulky. Average tuber size is 1.8 inches. Average tuber count is 28. There are roughly equal numbers of large and small tubers with this variety.
White is an abundant flowerer with a mid-styled flower, flowering year from late June to October.
True Seeds
True seeds of White produce plants with tubers of greater than average size. They tend to be whites or yellows, mostly with red eyes.
