Jerusalem Artichoke, Stampede

Stampede is a doubly day neutral variety, forming both flowers and tubers earlier than most varieties.

Culinary Traits

This variety tastes like a sunchoke.  I don’t find that most varieties differ much in flavor and this has the standard sunchoke flavor.  Tubers are tan, large, clumping, and moderately lumpy.  Tubers range considerably in size, but average about 3 to 4 ounces.

Agronomic Traits

Stampede begins to form tubers by mid-summer even in areas with very long days.  Flowering begins around the same time and can last as long as two months.  The stolons are mostly short, less than eight inches. Stampede is one of the most reliable true seed producers as long as there is another variety available to pollinate while it is in flower.  It makes a good pairing with Fuseau for true seed production.
