Alckee is a 2015 selection from seeds of a Colombian criolla type potato. It is a diploid potato with minimal dormancy. It begins to sprout again within a few weeks of harvest, so you need to take special measures to store it over the winter. I find that the best method is simply to pack the tubers in a plastic bag full of peat and keep them in the crisper of the refrigerator. This variety can be grown back to back several times during the growing season, which is the simultaneous asset and liability of diploid potatoes. Alckee has beautiful blue/purple tubers with light yellow flesh that cooks up dry. Like many diploids, this one is great for roasting whole or halved with a little olive oil.
Germplasm supplied by the USDA Potato Introduction Station was used in breeding this variety.
