Solanum longiconicum is a tetraploid wild species native to Costa Rica, reaching into Panama, where it is found on forest edges. Plants reach about 18 inches tall in cultivation, but are reported to grow much taller in shade. The plants are attractive with abundant, pretty flowers and interesting berries and it might be worth trying as an ornamental. This species is tetraploid and probably 2EBN, so it will cross directly with domesticated diploids, producing triploid progeny. Plantlet orders will include three different genotypes, which should ensure the possibility of seed production.
