Solanum paucissectum information and growing instructions |
Wild potatoes almost always produce unsafe levels of potato glycoalkaloids |
Solanum paucissectum is a diploid wild potato native to a small region in northern Peru. The plants are attractive, with glossy foliage and pretty flowers, so this one might be worth a try as an ornamental. As a diploid with 2EBN, it may be able to cross with domesticated diploids, which could be useful since it is a relatively unexplored source of resistance to late blight. Tubers are small, moniliform, and borne on long stolons, so this one needs containment if you don’t want to grow it forever.
